When we say no
We turn down Wikipedia engagements regularly, because the subject doesn't yet meet the notability bar and no amount of good writing changes that. When that's the case we say so, explain what independent coverage would need to exist first, and leave the door open. It costs us the sale and saves you a rejected page.
Straight answers to the hard questions
No — and anyone who promises this is either misleading you or about to get your page challenged and rejected. Notability is decided by Wikipedia's volunteer editors against public criteria. We assess whether you meet those criteria before we take an engagement, and we say no when you don't.
Yes — it is. Wikipedia's Terms of Use permit paid editing as long as the paid relationship is disclosed, and that is exactly how any editors who wish to make the edits are directed to proceed. We don't use house accounts, only third-parties to edit, so the ultimate decision is of course up to third-party editors.
Significant coverage in independent, reliable sources that you didn't commission — journalism, books, academic work. Press releases, your own website, and paid placements don't count toward it. That is the whole test, and it is why the assessment comes first.
Then we tell you, and we won't take the engagement. We'll explain what kind of independent coverage would change the answer. Some clients come back two years later and qualify comfortably.
